According to a study, eco-industry in Germany will employ more people in 2020 than the country's traditional leading industries, machine building and car manufacturing. Torsten Henzelmann of the strategy consultants Roland Berger says that in a few years eco- business will be making more money than both sectors put together.

According to the study "Energie 2020", conducted by the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VdE), the amount of energy generated by means of renewable sources will increase by 57 % in the next 25 years. We are looking at an industry which has doubled its global sales from 30 to 60 billion euros in just seven years. By 2020, the renewable energies market is expected to explode to even 400 billion euros.

Potential of solar power is still underestimated, say experts: In 2007 solar cells and moduls will be produced with a capacity of 4 Gigawatt (GW) worldwide. Not much, compared to a globally installed electricity capacity of over 4.000 GW.  But production of cells and moduls will rise to 20 GW by 2011.
